I enjoyed reading this piece Flakes. Very fluid and interesting. Allow me to add that some names can have a bad meaning in some languages and a good meaning in another. This makes me believe that we can give our names new meanings just as those who first formulated the names gave them meaning. So as the Bible says the power of life and death lies in the tongue, I also believe the power of meaning lies in with us as individuals too.

You can't be more correct. Whatever meaning the name holds for you is the power that works for you. If Juice for you means constant supply then constant supply it is and you walk around with the confidence and conviction that you will never lack. For another, juice may mean liquid that translates to leakage...

I totally enjoyed proof reading this as it captures what most of our parents pictured when giving us our names. And i also love Juice's take on giving our names new meanings. The summary altogether is for us to pay attention to what we are being called, words that we accept to be spoken over us as they carry power beyond that which we see.

Love it.

And below is my mum's comment. Hope you enjoying reading it.

This is very, very interesting, my Darling Obiageli.

Naturally, names have positive and negative meanings and consequences in people's lives. That's why a Yoruba adage says, "Ile la nwo ki ato s'omo loruko.

Meaning that you check your environment and circumstances before giving your child a name or names.

I am happy for you, OLUWAFOLAKEMI 👏👏👏

Thank you so much Buki and Grandma Otulana. I have learnt something new today! And yes Buki, we need to pay more attention to what we are being called. They are words spoken over us! Why did God have to change people's names in the bible?

I am overwhelmed. Great is our God who instituted names. I'm still praying to God to establish the real meaning of Afolashade to manifest in my life. I am Aina too, I know God had made me unstoppable despite all the challenges I face in life. To God be the glory.

While reading this it literally down on me how so powerful my name (I know the meaning of my name but....) is and I am not holding on to that identity. My name means- The future is great / What's ahead of me is great, ( and fear had held me back from going forward, when I already have the victory). Now I know, I go in this might I have received. Hallelujah

I see you walking around now with your shoulders high, knowing that what is ahead is greater than what is behind. It's such a beautiful revelation. We have so much power in us and Abba just needs us to realise and unleash it upon our world. 🔥

This was me last year when He said tell me your names and search their meanings out.

I didn't even know Winniefred had more meaning than if held.

When God wants to reveal more about your identity in Him. He sends you to your name

This is so beautiful Folake! I love this..♥️! Like you….I am so particular about the meaning of names.

And by the way that is why I don’t liked to be referred to as YO-YO….lol.

You remember I asked not to be referred to as that some time ago! I am still trying to get my sis & bro to stop 😭🤣!

This is why I have never been a fan of “Nick - Names”….actually….the original meaning of the name is truncated.

But yes I completely agree with you pertaining to the young parents out there…there are some “special names” going round 😅 these days.

So we must be very intentional about what names we are naming our children…for their destinies will be influenced by their names…just as you have similarly highlighted in your beautiful written piece.

Likewise, I do treasure my name as well

“Adeyoyinsola” - Ade-Yó-Oyin-Si-inu-Óla

Meaning - “The crown (royalty) has brought sweetness into wealth (or honour)."

Adeyoyinsola speaks of good fortune and a reflection of a family's joy and prosperity.

It signifies that I am a child of great happiness/joy and that my presence has brought an increase in wealth, honour, and a sense of "sweetness" to the family! ♥️

God bless you for this memorable reminder♥️

You couldn't have said it better Aunty Adeyoyinsola!!! Imagine your name being declared over you every where you go. It's like an opportunity for people to pray over you whether they like it or not.

Thank you for your beautiful and encouraging comment. God bless you loads 🙏 💕
